Attending the British Fashion Awards 2018

The annual British Fashion awards 2018 took place in London on monday December 10 and celebrated the most talented individuals in the fashion industry over the past 12 months. The most exiciting thing is that the British fashion council is awarding all the creativeness and young talent with the new emarging talent category.

So if you are interested in fashion and glamour the BFA is definetly the place to be.This year my friend and I decided to attend the BFA and make a trip out of it.First we bought our tickets for the awards which wasn’t that easy because we started looking only 1 month before the event. The tickets were for sale online on the official site of British Fashion Awards/ British council or site called Viagogo. In the end we decided to buy from Viagogo just because they had better seats left and we were happy with the decision. The tickets came in time and the seats were perfect.

Next we booked our flight and hotel which was, for the Christmas time of the year pretty cheap. We wanted a hotel near Royal Albert Hall because we were worried that a few roads in London will be closed because of the event, and boy were we right. Even though we had a hotel pretty close to the event we decided to take Uber. We got stuck in the traffic a few streets away from our hotel because everything around hall was closed, so we walked from there.

For the event we both bought some new items to wear. We packed everything so carefully that everything fit perfectly in our suitcases and was completely ready for the event. Of course, the  first thing at the airport the security opens up our luggage, picks everything out of our suitcases and gives us back our items. That was so annoying because they made a whole mess and  we had to pack everything again. It was just then and there when my friend realized she forgot the whole outfit at home.

Because of that ,we spent  the first day of our trip searching for the perfect outfit running all over Harrods, Selfridges and Ofxord street.

We decided to spend the day of the event in a more relaxed way ,but we could’t help ourselfes so we spent it in even more shops than the day before. London in December is sooo beautifully decorated and you can just feel that Christmas spirit in every single bar, street and shop.

Of course we were late returning into our hotel, so we took an Uber to get there faster. For our glam look we did get a little bit of assistence in Selfridges from NARS Cosmetics employee , because I did a little makeup spree there, so they did our foundation, concelar, conturing and blush. In the hotel room we did the rest of our makeup and the last touch ups on the whole outfit.

When we arrived at the BFA, there was a lot of traffic. Many people were arriving well dressed in the latest fashion trends and some of course not so much..We decided to keep it classy and chic because we didn’t want to stand out too much. We both went in classy pants with a beautiful top and high heel pumps. Some women decided to bring it and wore night gowns, yet some came in total day look. So, if you decide to go don’t feel pressured to dress in a £5,000 worth dress.

We did arrive a little early so we went to the bar and ordered ourselves drinks. The bar was quite limited with the drink choice so we got Aperol Spritz that costed £15 each. If you are looking to save so money, you probably won’t order drinks there.

This year’s host was Jack Whitehall, famous British comedian, actor, presenter and writer that hosted BFA since 2013 and made it even more special with his humor and charisma. This year he was joined by Alek Wek a South Sudanese – British model and designer of a handbags called “Wek 1933”.

The very first award was presented by actor Robert Pattinson most known for his role in a vampire saga “twilight”. Kim Jones was honoured with the award for the trailblazer of 2018.

One of the most iconic moments was Ellie Gouilding’s unique performance singing a song Natural Women by Aretha Franklin.

Also we were very excited for the special guest of the evening the British royal Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle who presented the winner of the category British designer womenswear. This moment was very special ,since Meghan Markle choose Claire Waight Keller from Givenchy as the designer of her  wedding dress for the Royal wedding.

For the closing of the awards a singer Boy George sang a song called Victims that he did with his band Culture Club.

After the event we went outside because my friend wanted to go for a cigarette. While we were hanging out there we caught some of the models waiting for their rides. We got to meet Doutzen Kroes who is,by the way the sweetest person ever. She was so nice and down to earth. I was a little nervous talking to her because she is such an amazing model and such an inspiration but ,she really is the kindest person. Next we meet Sara Sampaio another Victoria’s Secret angel and we were so surprised by how available and sweet they are!

Then there were also Georgina May and Lizzie Jagger, Suki Waterhouse, Virgil Abloh, Brooke Shields, Cindy Bruna and even more.

So if I round it up quickly – BFA’s are a perfect way to make some connections because every one is so opened to conversation and easy to talk to.
